Background and purpose of assignment
Your objective is to offer our internal business analysts an efficient environment to generate the insights they are looking for. That’s quite a mouthful, so let’s explain this further.

As Data & Insights Tribe, we offer actionable insights to the whole organization. The most common information products we offer, are Qlik Apps: presenting information in a visually appealing way, with additional functionality for end-users to filter and zoom in on the parts they are interested in. On the other end of the spectrum, we offer Advanced Analytics, where Data Scientists and Big Data Engineers work together to create complex algorithms to predict certain behavior or prescribe the next best action to take. Between the standard Qlik Apps and Advanced Analytics, lies the area of Business Analytics: an environment where business analysts can query on a controlled dataset themselves. They can combine data coming from many different sources to generate deeper insights. Your assignment is focused on this area: The Business Analytics Layer.

This is how you do it
The required data is stored on our Advanced Analytics Platform (AAP), and the business analysts can query this data via an application called Athena (from AWS). Your assignment is to optimize the Way of Working of these business analysts and support the Athena application.

Regarding the Way of Working: business analysts are looking for deeper insights than Qlik Apps can provide – they need to query the data themselves. It’s a specific group of professionals spread across the organization. Therefore, it is important to create a virtual community of business analysts to get more consistency in their way of working, to share relevant information and best practices, and stimulate self-support within the community. It’s up to you to define a proposal how to get this in place, and then execute it.

Regarding the Application Support: Business Analysts will have requests to access certain data, questions on performance, issues when trying to store data etc. You will act as central point of contact for this and take the required actions or allocate to appropriate colleagues to get these solved.

You have it
The assignment requires thorough (conceptual) knowledge in the field of business analytics or data & insights. Basic querying skills and a good understanding of databases and architecture is also a necessity. Next to these technical aspects, you also possess the required soft skills: you are able to make contact with colleagues and internal customers effortlessly, and thanks to your communication skills you convey and gather information where needed. Your grasp of operational processes and pragmatic attitude in a complex organization serve you well in this position. This position as intern also requires:

• Studying for bachelor or master degree in a relevant field, such as technical management, industrial engineering, information science, artificial intelligence;
• 4-6 months internship duration;
• Excellent English language skills.
