Functiebeschrijving

The CAE-engines department is responsible for creation and validation of models that can describe and predict the behavior of the new and current engines. Due to more increasing requirements on emissions modern diesel engines have become complex systems. These emssion legislations cause the need to add additional sub-systems to the base engine. These sub-systems are bolted to the base engine. To ensure endurance life of the sub-systems engine vibrations of these systems need to be limited by optimizing their stiffness and the connections to the base engine.

Within DAF the need for modeling techniques to determine the optimum for the cam shape has risen. One of the focus points is predicting the contact stress in the cam-roller contact. Next to this the influence of misalignment of the cam-roller interface needs to be visualized. Finally the optimum cam profile, based on contact stress/positioning error and cam crowning shape should be found.

For each step the following steps need to be taken:
- Analytical calculations
- Numerical model selection
- Numerical modeling
- Parameter sensitivity study
- Result evaluation

The assignment will be mainly theoretical using Abaqus CAE as FEA software.
